Achilles Tendinopathy

Overview

Achilles tendinopathy is an overuse injury of the tendon that connects the calf muscles to the heel bone.
It develops gradually due to repetitive strain or poor load management and is common in runners, jumpers, and individuals who suddenly increase activity levels.

Signs & Symptoms

- Pain or stiffness at the back of the heel or lower calf
- Morning tightness or pain with the first steps
- Swelling or thickening of the tendon
- Pain that worsens with running or jumping
- Tenderness when squeezing the tendon

Causes

- Overuse or repetitive strain
- Tight calf muscles and limited ankle mobility
- Sudden increases in training load
- Poor foot mechanics or footwear
- Weak calf and lower leg muscles
