WRIST SPRAIN / INSTABILITY

Wrist Sprain / Instability
Overview
A wrist sprain occurs when ligaments connecting the small wrist bones are stretched or torn, often due to falls or sudden impacts.
If left untreated, chronic instability can develop, leading to ongoing pain, weakness, or decreased grip strength.
Signs & Symptoms
- Pain, swelling, or bruising around the wrist
- Weakness or instability when pushing or gripping
- Clicking or catching sensation with movement
- Pain during weight-bearing (e.g. push-ups, planks)
- Reduced range of motion
Causes
- Fall on an outstretched hand
- Sports injuries or repetitive strain
- Previous wrist injury or inadequate rehab
- Weak forearm and wrist stabilizers
- Poor load tolerance from lack of strength
How a Chiropractor Can Help
At Unify Rehab & Performance, we conduct a detailed joint stability and movement assessment to evaluate the extent of ligament injury and mechanical restriction.
Treatment includes:
- Manual therapy and joint mobilizations (once acute swelling resolves).
- Soft tissue therapy to reduce tension and promote healing.
- Acupuncture to decrease pain and support tissue recovery.
- Progressive rehab for wrist strength, proprioception, and load control.
- Education on bracing, gradual load progression, and prevention strategies.
Our goal is to rebuild strength and confidence in the wrist so you can return to activity safely and avoid chronic instability.
