Ankle Sprain / Instability

Overview

An ankle sprain is one of the most common musculoskeletal injuries, occurring when the ligaments supporting the ankle are stretched or torn.
While many sprains heal with time, repeated injuries or poor rehabilitation can lead to chronic instability, weakness, and loss of confidence in movement.

Signs & Symptoms

- Pain, swelling, or bruising around the ankle
- Tenderness on the outer or inner side of the ankle
- Difficulty bearing weight or walking
- Feeling of “giving way” or instability
- Stiffness and limited range of motion

Causes

- Sudden twisting or rolling of the ankle
- Uneven surfaces or poor footwear
- Previous ankle injuries or incomplete rehab
- Weak stabilizer muscles in the foot and lower leg
- Limited ankle mobility or poor balance control

How a Chiropractor Can Help

At Unify Rehab & Performance, we start with a comprehensive ankle and lower-limb assessment to determine the severity of the injury and identify underlying movement deficits.

Our treatment includes:

- Chiropractic mobilizations to restore joint motion and alignment.
- Soft tissue therapy to reduce tension and swelling.
- Acupuncture for pain relief and enhanced circulation.
- Progressive rehabilitation emphasizing balance, proprioception, and strength.
- Education on bracing, footwear, and return-to-activity guidelines.

Our goal is to rebuild stability and confidence—so you can move freely without worrying about recurring sprains.
