Overview

Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) disorder involves dysfunction or irritation in the jaw joint and surrounding muscles, often causing jaw pain, clicking, or headaches.
It’s common among individuals with stress-related clenching or grinding, postural strain, or after dental or jaw trauma.

Signs & Symptoms

- Jaw pain or tenderness (especially when chewing or yawning)
- Clicking, popping, or locking of the jaw
- Headaches, ear pain, or facial tightness
- Difficulty opening or closing the mouth fully
- Neck or upper back tension accompanying jaw pain

Causes

- Teeth grinding (bruxism) or clenching
- Stress and jaw muscle tension
- Poor posture or forward head alignment
- Previous jaw injury or dental work
- Imbalances in jaw and neck muscle coordination
