HIP FLEXOR STRAIN / TIGHTNESS

Hip Flexor Strain / Tightness
Overview
Hip flexor strain or tightness is one of the most common causes of hip and groin discomfort—especially in those who sit frequently or engage in running, cycling, or kicking sports.
The hip flexors (iliopsoas, rectus femoris) are responsible for lifting your knee and stabilizing your pelvis. When these muscles become tight, overworked, or strained, they can limit mobility and contribute to compensations in the low back or pelvis.
Signs & Symptoms
- Pain or tightness at the front of the hip or groin
- Discomfort during running, kicking, or prolonged sitting
- Limited hip extension or stride length
- Pain when lifting the leg or transitioning from sitting to standing
- Possible clicking or pinching sensation at the front of the hip
Causes
- Prolonged sitting and hip flexor shortening
- Sudden increase in activity or sprinting
- Weak glute and core muscles causing overuse of hip flexors
- Poor posture and anterior pelvic tilt
- Previous hip or groin injuries
How a Chiropractor Can Help
At Unify Rehab & Performance, we begin with a comprehensive movement and hip mobility assessment to determine whether your tightness stems from muscular tension, joint restriction, or movement compensation.
Our approach includes:
- Manual therapy and mobilizations to improve hip and pelvic motion.
- Soft tissue therapy to release the hip flexors and surrounding muscles.
- Acupuncture for pain relief and improved tissue recovery.
- Strength-based rehab emphasizing glute activation, core stability, and hip extension control.
- Education on posture, sitting habits, and movement retraining.
Our focus is to restore balance between flexibility and strength—helping you move freely and prevent recurring tightness or strain.
