ROTATOR CUFF TENDINOPATHY

Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy
Overview
Rotator cuff tendinopathy refers to irritation or degeneration of the tendons that stabilize the shoulder joint—most often the supraspinatus.
It commonly develops from overuse, poor shoulder mechanics, or age-related wear, and can significantly limit strength and mobility.
Signs & Symptoms
- Aching or sharp pain in the front or side of the shoulder
- Pain when lifting, reaching, or rotating the arm
- Weakness during overhead movements
- Night pain that disrupts sleep
- Gradual onset without clear trauma
Causes
- Repetitive shoulder use or overtraining
- Weak rotator cuff or scapular stabilizers
- Tight chest and neck muscles altering shoulder position
- Poor posture (rounded shoulders, forward head)
- Previous shoulder injury
- Natural tendon aging and reduced blood flow
How a Chiropractor Can Help
At Unify Rehab & Performance, we perform a detailed shoulder strength and movement assessment to locate the source of tendon overload and movement inefficiency.
Our treatment may include:
- Manual therapy and adjustments to improve shoulder and thoracic motion.
- Soft tissue therapy targeting rotator cuff and surrounding muscles.
- Acupuncture for pain reduction and improved circulation.
- Progressive rehab: eccentric strengthening, scapular control, and mobility work.
- Education on exercise form, recovery, and load progression.
Through a combination of hands-on treatment and progressive strength training, we help you rebuild durable shoulder function and prevent future flare-ups.
