SACROILIAC JOINT PAIN

Sacroiliac (SI) Joint Pain
Overview
The sacroiliac (SI) joints connect the sacrum (base of the spine) to the pelvis. Dysfunction or irritation in these joints can lead to localized pain in the lower back, buttocks, or hips.
SI joint pain often mimics sciatica or low back pain but requires a distinct approach focused on pelvic stability and movement symmetry.
Signs & Symptoms
- Pain on one side of the lower back or buttock
- Discomfort when standing up from sitting or climbing stairs
- Pain that may radiate into the groin or thigh
- Stiffness after prolonged sitting or standing
- Feeling of instability or “locking” around the pelvis
Causes
- Pelvic asymmetry or misalignment
- Weak gluteal or core muscles
- Pregnancy or hormonal changes (increased ligament laxity)
- Repetitive twisting, running, or lifting
- Trauma, falls, or prolonged sitting postures
How a Chiropractor Can Help
At Unify Rehab & Performance, we start with a detailed biomechanical and movement assessment to identify whether the SI joint is the true source of pain or secondary to another dysfunction.
Our treatment often includes:
- Manual therapy and chiropractic adjustments to restore pelvic and lumbar alignment.
- Soft tissue therapy for surrounding muscles (glutes, hip flexors, low back).
- Acupuncture to reduce inflammation and improve local blood flow.
- Rehabilitation exercises focusing on glute activation, core control, and single-leg stability.
- Education on lifting mechanics, sitting posture, and pelvic mobility.
Our integrated approach aims to correct asymmetries, rebuild stability, and help you return to pain-free, confident movement.
