PATELLAR TENDINOPATHY

Patellar Tendinopathy (Jumper’s Knee)
Overview
Patellar tendinopathy, also known as jumper’s knee, is irritation or degeneration of the patellar tendon that connects the kneecap to the shinbone.
It commonly affects athletes involved in jumping or sprinting sports and results from repetitive strain and inadequate recovery.
Signs & Symptoms
- Pain and tenderness just below the kneecap
- Discomfort when jumping, squatting, or kneeling
- Stiffness after rest or first thing in the morning
- Gradual worsening of pain with activity
- Possible swelling or thickening around the tendon
Causes
- Repetitive jumping, sprinting, or squatting
- Poor landing mechanics or weak glutes/quadriceps
- Sudden increase in training load
- Tight quadriceps or hip flexors
- Insufficient recovery or strength imbalance
How a Chiropractor Can Help
At Unify Rehab & Performance, we conduct a thorough strength and loading assessment to determine what’s driving your tendon overload.
Our treatment includes:
- Chiropractic and soft tissue therapy to improve mobility and reduce strain on the tendon.
- Acupuncture to decrease pain and enhance circulation.
- Rehabilitation emphasizing eccentric and isometric tendon loading, hip/knee strength, and gradual return-to-sport progression.
- Education on proper training recovery and load management.
We don’t just treat symptoms — we rebuild tendon capacity so you can perform and train confidently without recurring pain.
