MENISCUS INJURY

Meniscus Injury
Overview
The meniscus is a C-shaped cartilage structure in the knee that acts as a cushion and stabilizer between the thigh bone (femur) and shin bone (tibia).
Meniscus injuries can occur acutely from twisting or gradually from degenerative wear. Symptoms can range from mild discomfort to locking or catching of the knee joint.
Signs & Symptoms
- Pain or tenderness along the inside or outside of the knee joint
- Swelling or stiffness after activity
- Clicking, locking, or catching sensation
- Difficulty fully straightening or bending the knee
- Instability or “giving way” feeling
Causes
- Twisting or pivoting injuries, especially with a bent knee
- Repetitive squatting or kneeling
- Age-related cartilage degeneration
- Poor movement control or muscular imbalance
- Weakness or reduced joint stability
How a Chiropractor Can Help
At Unify Rehab & Performance, we start with a detailed orthopedic and movement assessment to determine the extent of injury and identify contributing weaknesses.
Our treatment includes:
- Manual therapy and mobilizations to maintain joint mobility and reduce stiffness.
- Soft tissue therapy to relieve surrounding muscular tension.
- Acupuncture to support tissue healing and reduce pain.
- Rehabilitation focusing on quad and glute strength, balance, and load progression.
- Education on activity modifications and recovery timelines.
Most meniscus injuries can be effectively managed without surgery when treated with the right combination of mobility, strength, and stability training.
