Headaches (Cervicogenic / Tension-Type)

Overview

Headaches originating from the neck (cervicogenic) or muscular tension are extremely common and often mistaken for migraines.
They typically arise from joint restriction, muscle tightness, or poor posture in the neck and upper back—especially among those who sit at a desk or work on screens for extended periods.

Signs & Symptoms

- Dull, aching pain starting at the base of the skull and radiating to the temples or eyes
- Neck stiffness or restricted movement
- Headaches triggered by posture or stress
- Pain on one or both sides of the head
- Relief after stretching or movement

Causes

- Forward head posture or prolonged sitting
- Muscle tension (upper traps, suboccipitals, levator scapulae)
- Cervical joint restriction or poor mobility
- Stress, fatigue, or eye strain
- Previous whiplash or neck injury

How a Chiropractor Can Help

At Unify Rehab & Performance, we begin with a comprehensive neck and postural assessment to identify contributing factors to your headaches.

Our treatment approach includes:

- Chiropractic adjustments and mobilizations to improve neck and upper-back motion.
- Soft tissue therapy to release tension and improve circulation.
- Acupuncture to alleviate pain and calm muscular tightness.
- Rehabilitation focusing on posture correction and neck stability.
- Education on workstation ergonomics, stress management, and movement breaks.

Our goal is to address the root cause—not just the symptoms—so you experience fewer headaches, improved posture, and better overall function.
