CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Overview
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is caused by compression of the median nerve as it travels through the carpal tunnel in the wrist.
It’s common in individuals who perform repetitive wrist or hand movements, such as typing, gripping, or assembly work. Early identification and conservative care can prevent long-term nerve damage and weakness.
Signs & Symptoms
- Numbness, tingling, or burning sensation in the thumb, index, and middle fingers
- Weakness or clumsiness when gripping objects
- Pain radiating into the forearm or up the arm
- Nighttime symptoms or waking with “pins and needles”
- Reduced hand coordination
Causes
- Repetitive wrist flexion or extension
- Prolonged computer use or keyboard posture
- Poor wrist ergonomics or tight forearm muscles
- Swelling or inflammation in the wrist
- Diabetes, thyroid issues, or fluid retention (in some cases)
How a Chiropractor Can Help
At Unify Rehab & Performance, our process begins with a thorough neurological and biomechanical assessment to determine the exact source of nerve compression.
Treatment may include:
- Wrist and hand mobilizations to restore tunnel space.
- Soft tissue therapy for tight forearm and hand muscles.
- Acupuncture to reduce nerve irritation and pain.
- Rehabilitation to strengthen the wrist, forearm, and postural stabilizers.
- Education on ergonomic adjustments and movement breaks during work.
Our goal is to relieve nerve tension, restore normal function, and prevent symptom recurrence through a hands-on and movement-based approach.
